OPEN DOORS

Inviting Families to Church

One of the fastest ways to grow your church is to invite families. And it is often the easiest. Episcopalians often aren't comfortable inviting people to church so it is much easier to focus on children and youth. OPEN DOORS is a plan, a process, events and everything you need to help your congregation become inviters. You'll learn how to use the four key entry points to invite families to your church!

Sealed And Sent Forth

This confirmation program is based on the Journey to Adulthood (J2A) program. It examines what it means to be a Christian, an Episcopalian and invites participants to examine what a particular Christian community does and means. The sessions are suitable for confirmation preparation for both youth or adults new to the church. Sessions include worship, historical and theological content, discussion, reflection and community building. Fifteen 2-hour sessions (may also be used in one-hour sessions).

The Story Of Anglicanism (DVD)

The roots of the Anglican tradition are traced in this DVD from the ancient and medieval foundations, through the Reformation and its consequences, with implications for creating a global family. Three parts make this an ideal Sunday adult education resource. Also can be used with confirmation groups, new members groups or with youth groups.

The Story Of The Episcopal Church (DVD)

Our church’s past merges with the present with narration by David Morse and interviews with leading Episcopal historians and commentators, who connect past events with ministry in our own day. This program comes in two parts making it ideal for Sunday morning adult education forums. Also good for confirmation, new members or youth groups. Study guides provide timelines, glossary and discussion topics.

Water, Bread and Wine

Should we offer communion to people
before they are baptized?

Just a few years ago, almost every Episcopal Church used the same invitation to the eucharist: “All baptized Christians are welcome to receive the eucharist.” Then something changed. And it changed quickly. Today you can hear a wide range of invitations offered by the priest or printed in the bulletin. Some of them will still mention “baptized Christians.” But you also will hear many different versions of an “open” invitation.
